Does Money Matter?
Hey everyone! I hope that those of you who celebrated Thanksgiving recently were safe and had a wonderful day! I am going to do a post today about the concept of money and how it integrates into our lives. This is also going to be a sort of introduction to a mini-series I am going to do about money management. I have realized that, in my years of working in finance and studying the topic in college, I have acquired a good amount of knowledge that not everyone knows, so I thought I'd share some of it.
Ok, so for starters, money matters. whether we like it or not. You may be someone who believes in the old saying "Money can't buy happiness," and that's fine, but it is not entirely true. Yes, the best things in life are free, like love and friendship, but there are many aspects of living and maintaining relationships that are not sustainable without money.
For instance, if you are a family oriented person, you may value having a good marriage and raising children over having a high-paying career, but to raise healthy, happy kids, you need money to buy a suitable house and give them the things they need. Maybe knowledge or art are your passions. Well, you need money to go to college or to pursue the apex of your creed. Is travel and culture important to you? Well, you need money to travel. So you see, it doesn't matter if you find money boring, you don't care about being wealthy, or whatever, because you need to be smart about money no matter what your goal in life is.
That being said, I am going to do a series of blog posts after this one involving various topics, such as:
- What is a credit score and how is it calculated? How can you improve credit?
- What do you need to do to be ready to buy a house?
- How do you create a basic budget and what are some good ways to save money?
- How should I prioritize my debt?
- Basics of investing and retirement accounts
- Tips and tricks to maximize your money
Keep a lookout for these posts every week and let me know if there is a banking or money topic you want me to talk about in detail.
Thanks for reading!
